Experimental Moments

Colored Shapes

I was wondering how different colors were able to contribute with a contour or shape. The purpose is to look at this image on 1 meter scale on a white or grey wall but not black. I used different colors with different objects from different materials (paper, plastic, glass & cotton fibers) and tried to find out a suitable combination of it on right exposure with flash lights. I did not use various filters or layers. I added 8 % black . I believe the ratio 1:1 is the best choice . It expresses the content rather the shape. However I did not like the dominant circular shape. The second image below , I Β like . I de-saturated the red colors and this became the results.

I was inspired by the music of ” solar fields -Third Tile ( version A)”. Maybe you can understand what was driven me to make this image.

  1. I’ve now found the music – I get it! Also I’m really with your thoughts on artificial layers. I shall say no more – in case I get into trouble with all the Photoshop loving camera club!

    1. Hey Jane , i don’t believe you are getting remarks if you want to express politely your opinion. In fact , I respect PS work as true art ;it is just another creativity than mine. I am often visiting these artist and i admire their expressions . By the way , I wrote a paper about what i do believe might art be. If you like and have the time , you can read this on my story blog the ‘bavelons’

PS If you prefer that some comments are not ready to be published , but you want to share your ideas and thought to me , Just let me know , I will not publish them.

    2. Hi Bart. Please feel free to always publish. I probably worded that badly; (plus, I was saying that “tongue in cheek, as they say”! our camera club is amazing and I should love to have their PS skills and their camera skills). But back to PS.
I, like you, admire PS creativity as art and that, as you quite rightly say, is an art in itself. However, what I am seeing so much of in the galleries and craft centers where I live, are landscape photographs which appear to have been worked on excessively alongside an artists statement making a point out of saying they haven’t. I should just rather they said nothing and leave the apraisal to the viewer.
A strange coincidence but there has been a debate regarding this very point just recently.

I feel it will always be a decision for the individual but one that will be debated well into the next decade. πŸ™‚ I shall be interested to read your paper very soon. Now I shall try to get my head around my next project. πŸ˜€ As always, I enjoy our chat!
